"Tina
Reneé" Tina Reneé Review by: Len Hailing from Charlotte North Carolina, Tina Reneé is a self taught pianist who brings deep personal lyrics and enchanting piano skills to her CD. Eleven tracks strong the self titled CD is haunting and passionate. Her lyrics hit home with relatable personal images of self, identity, and love among others. Her topics are poignant and introspective. Very hard to place into a specific genre I would tend toward a combination of folk and a gentle alternative style. Opening Track, "Never Again" deals with searching for personal identity and the need to be wanted, desired. The awesome point she makes in the song is the |
amount of control we forfeit to counteract rejection. Personal examples and unique visual contradictions combined with Tina's captivating piano accompaniment make for a strong song and great CD opening. "Sweet Suffocation" about Tina's "wife" Sara is a lingering and emotive piece. Again her skill on piano is a classic compliment to the tender lyrics.
The CD has a comfortable flow and melodious quality. As I said earlier her style is very difficult to peg or restrict to one genre. However, a presence of a new age style is interwoven with folk type lyrics. A CD which calls for repeat listens to better understand and relate to the messages conveyed in her lyrics. This is not at all an unpleasant experience. The more you hear the more you realize you missed in the last play. A CD that keeps on giving of the artist's talent with her lyrics and sweet yet empowered vocal skills. A warm sensitivity is one undertone. However in songs like "Drive It In", and "Addict" there is an underlying edge and obvious tone of cryptic glance. All in all a great listen with pensive yet intense lyrics combined.
