Silent Too Long
Steve Cohen Review By: Codi It is easy to understand why Steve Cohen's earlier CD did so well on the Outvoice charts. "Silent Too Long" is eleven tracks of pure Cohen talent. And that, my friend is a very good thing. With his music, Steve plays his listeners emotionally and musically like a fine tuned instrument. Taking you on journeys with a multitude of subjects and personal response. There is nothing "mid" about this CD. Cohen delivers, and with wit, compassion, and flare. The reflective "Like We Used To", turns the usually sad tale of past love into a sensitive retrospect. In direct controversy in approach, "I Want Everything" takes on the subject of infidelity with a honest and at moments amusing twist. |
"Home For The Holidays" is perhaps one of the most compelling and emotionally charged pieces on the obvious subject. Cohen's treatment of the subject is touching, and delivered with strength and believable sentiment. On the other end of that spectrum is "I Want To Be A Jock", probably my favorite. I enjoy the Steve Cohen approach and sarcasm. Combined with his music and vocal talents this song just stuck like hot oatmeal on a cold winter day.
I say "probably my favorite" above because it would be hard to pick one song from this wonderfully woven selection of music. This predecessor to "I Must Have Been Crazy" is indeed an excellent intro the the amazing talent that is Steve Cohen. Produced by Jack Piccari, also an instructor of Steve's, "Silent Too Long" has all the ingredients to achieve a "classic" status. Not just in our community, while Cohen's music is community geared it is universal in its appeal and subject matter. His musical style, influenced by Elton John, Bruce Springsteen, and Jack Piccari is a credit to those who he freely recognizes. Of course let us not forget Steve's other influence, The Partridge Family. It is just that unexpected twist in Cohen which attracts this listener to his music.
"Silent Too Long" is a definite inclusion in any sort of musical collection. For more information about Steve Cohen, his music, projects, and upcoming October release of his new CD visit Steve's site!
