CD Review- "I Must Have Been Crazy"

Artist - Steve Cohen

Review By Codi

This is a CD not to be ignored. Strong emotional imagery combined with exciting melodies cling to your mind. The music is catchy, familiar, and easy to feel. Lyrically the CD is packed with bite, humor, and a sense of worldly views. The over-all feel for me can be best described as a unique experience, blending Billy Joel, Lou Reed, and Elton John with still strong original quality. Very enjoyable

Cohen's voice has just enough gravel to add edge to his already strong lyrics. "Your Kind Of Love", dedicated to the family of Matthew Shepherd is a vivid statement on bashing and its effects. You feel Cohen's words as much as his music. The humor in Dyke's Lumber, the Latin back beat of "Spanish Fly", and the haunting visions brought to mind by "Jenny". All lyrically and musically strong, the CD keeps you moving from one literal experience to the next. Obviously doesn't work as background music for me. The songs are very involving and I have found spark lively conversation.

All songs are Steve Cohen's with the exception of; "You Don't Know What You Want" and "Spanish Fly" music co-written with producer Jack Piccari and "Dyke's Lumber" words co-written with Dave & Carol Downing. Steve handles all vocals and piano. The final result is an excellent blend of vocals and all instruments creating a well balanced and active musical experience.

A definite big thumbs-up, this CD, "I Must Have Been Crazy" is an exciting and stimulating listen. One of those recordings your friends will ask about. I hate to categorize, but I realize some will want that information. Rock influenced pop would be my choice. Not music to nap to, active and involved it will also keep you moving. I look forward to bringing you a review of Steve Cohen's "Silent Too Long" CD his first recording.
