"Corvair... the ep" Ripley Caine Review by: Len Ripley Caine has provided a unique personal voyage in "Corvair". Haunting melodies and lyrics which create a definite response. This CD is one not to miss. Varying tempos combined with Ripley's exceptional vocal talents weave a most pleasant experience. Vocally somewhere near but not like Joni Mitchell, add some bite and genuine involvement, and you have this talented artist. There is an edge to her lyrics and style which bring to mind early Grace Slick, but softened again by her own unique style. |
When I think of the word corvair, a classic comes to mind. The same applies to Ripley Caine's CD by the same name. A classic which I feel will be sought out and treasured every bit as much as the aforementioned. Caine's voice swings with ease from a gentle plead to a demanding soul-deep coo. All very pleasantly brought together. Her prowess with the guitar is not to be underestimated, setting the tone and frequently the edge. Caine uses all available to bring her music to the forefront of your consciousness.
The references and influences are varied and broad based. Not an artist to be pigeon-holed. Not really folk, or pop, but somewhere in between. Good and very enjoyable are the best descriptions I can find. That in itself is refreshing. Caine brings new insight to the misconceived woman with an acoustic guitar genre. Ripley delves into new areas of impressions and feel. A great listen, thought provoking and a definite mood enhancer. I would highly recommend "Corvair" as a plus to any collection.
