“The Return of Innocence” By Duane Simolke with Toni Davis
Review by Joe Wright

Duane has done it again. This time with the help of  fantasy writer and co-author, Toni Davis. “The Return of Innocence” is the story of  heroine Sasha. The sixteen year old daughter of a once respected family, who now live as exiles from their homeland. It is full of magic, adventure, humor and action. We cannot leave out of course that award winning Simolke literary magic. The list could go on.

Sasha, sort of, stumbles into becoming the legend known as ‘Innocence’. She is on a mission, back to her homeland to trade for seeds… But, where does the Return come in? Why, when Sasha returns the following year to trade for seeds again. That’s where the fun begins. I don’t want to tell you too much of the story and ruin any of the surprises that are in store for you, the reader.

Duane wrote a short story “The Return of Innocence” in 1983. And I for one, am very glad to see that he took the characters to the next step. As an avid Simolke reader, one way I judge a book is that I want to know more about the characters that are introduced to me. “The Return of Innocence” is one of those books. (Duane, take the hint.) I especially like the natural way in which  Duane introduces gay characters. With the feel and intent of “So? Who Cares?” They are just there like every other character in the book. They have their own part to play. Humanized rather than demonized. Bravo  Again Duane!

I would recommend “The Return of Innocence” to all. Matters not whether you are an avid reader, reader of fantasy, fiction, or gay related stories, “The Return of Innocence is another Duane Simolke must read! But then aren't they all?

Duane Simolke, author, Degranon: A Science Fiction Adventure; editor and co-author of the fund-raiser The Acorn Gathering: Writers Uniting Against Cancer.
