David De Alba Website Review |
As I have had
the pure enjoyment of seeing David perform, his site was not only a treat
but a welcome memory. It has been a few years since my visit to the famous
Finocchio Club in San Francisco. This was one of the premiere places in
the U.S. to go and see some of the best female impersonators perform. I
would definitely say that David
de Alba ranks high on the scale of the best list. His website is an
excellent resource for entertainment information and as well a wonderful
GLBT historical reference site. You will find actual clips and recordings from the Finocchio Club showcasing David's wonderful talent and ability to impersonate. His voice is |
strong and quite natural. No head voice, no strained falsetto for Mr. de
Alba, a genuine talent. I remember being amazed and thrilled when I saw him
perform. Many can walk on stage and sing a song. David
de Alba brought not only the sound of Judy Garland and Liza Minnelli to the
stage, but also the energy, the mystique, and the emotion. His own invention,
Boy Chic, another stellar piece of entertainment.
Along with information about de Alba's legendary
collection of Judy Garland memorabilia, you will have at your fingertips lots of
history. David with many celebrities, his tributes page, and his look at
performing. A truly interesting and well done website.
I have spent many hours reading, learning, and remembering. As my mother owned a
bar which was very gay friendly and frequently offered female impersonation as
the entertainment. Many of these names are very familiar to me. And I do mean
very familiar. I first heard of David de Alba through a friend of my mother's
who had seen him perform. So when I made my first trip to San Francisco,
Finocchio's was a must for me. The realization of that goal was no
disappointment. The next year, six of my mother's customers went on their
own trip. They returned as excited and thrilled as I.
The entertainer David de Alba ranks high with other
greats like; Charles Pierce, Craig Russell, Jim Bailey, Harvey Lee, Lucian, Gypsy, and
the list just keeps going. David's Tribute page has information about all of
these entertainers and more. All of which are great names in entertainment in
both the GLBT world as well as the entertainment world itself. Of course you
will learn that David had another connection with the entertainment world as the
"hairdresser to the stars".
I am very happy to say that in next month's Equal
Pride we will have an interview with this legendary talent. Topics will range
from his career, social changes, and his new CD. Yep, now you can have your de
Alba and hear it too! I think it is wonderful that David has put together a CD
of his amazing voice. Now his performance won't be just a memory, but something
to enjoy again and again. All this and more awaits you on your visit to the de
Alba website. Take a step into that world, enjoy the art, the talent, and
savor the history!
