International Community Awards Program
Presented to local communities, organizations, persons or districts so that they may reward and recognize local persons/organizations with a verified award of International/National stature. All awards will carry the "Presented To: (Recipient) By (Your local organization/city/district) Courtesy of the International Community Awards Program of StoneWall Society" announcement. Nominations and votes will originate from the respective local communities, organizations, persons, or districts. StoneWall Society will verify the nomination claims and candidate's votes. Each Award has unique qualifiers for consideration. The criteria for the specific award must be met as well as the required minimum individual votes in order for any award to be granted. We have included flexibility with regard to qualifiers however, basic criteria must be met for consideration. Our goal is to offer a program which meets the needs of the community. In order to maintain the integrity of the program all nominee claims will be verified. Awards will be presented to recipients by the original nomination source and or by StoneWall Society.
All recipients will be listed in the StoneWall Society International Community Award Recipients Directory. Recipients will receive a listing with Award title, nomination source, recipient photograph, description/bio, recipient statement, recipient URL and or other contact information as requested by the recipient. StoneWall Society will send press releases to GLBTI Press and concerned agencies on behalf of all recipients and nomination sources on International, National, and Local levels. All recipients must receive the actual StoneWall Society International Community Award certificate, in addition to any local allowed representations of the award.
Further details and qualifiers are listed with each Award as well as nomination instructions and voting rules.

Ulrichs Award for Exemplary
Community Contribution
Named in honor of Karl Heinrich
Ulrichs August, 1825 to July, 1895.
"Ulrichs regarded homosexuals as neither criminal nor
sick and tried to organize them for their own welfare. In 1864 he was planning
to publish a homosexual periodical and in 1870 he started it but it only lasted
for one issue through lack of support.
On 28th. August 1867 he became the first self-proclaimed homosexual to speak out
publicly for homosexual rights when he pleaded at the Congress of German Jurists
in Munich for a resolution urging the repeal of all anti-homosexual laws. He was
shouted down." From: http://www.stonewallsociety.com/famouspeople/karl.htm
