"How I Learned To
Snap" Kirk Read Review by: Len Rogers Snap being the operative word here. Kirk Read display such an ability with absolute control and humor throughout the entire book. An easy and enticing read, Kirk shares memories, conceptions, and personal views with a seasoned style. Even the "young" Kirk in the book has a very seasoned tongue and thought process. This creates some of the most amusing anecdotes, and the written delivery meets the challenge. Portnoy meets "The Wonder Years" would be the closest analogy I could muster. Truly unique, "How I Learned To Snap" is a laughable roller coaster ride through the eyes of a questioning youth, with just the right amount of snap. |
It is not uncommon in similar reading to have the "child" seem jaded and or just extremely out for that age. Kirk's ability to demonstrate childlike curiosity is sincere and on the mark. "Little" Kirk may indeed have sexual questionings but focus is appropriate, funny, and often endearing. Innocence with a snap so to speak. Had "little" Kirk been chasing a red balloon throughout the book.... again just a drifting analogy. Fast beat, smooth transitions, and just plain old fun make this a most pleasurable read.
