In her site, "Reflections of My Soul", Beryl Berry has shown that love, emotions, and acceptance are indeed universal. Many concepts, thoughts, and deep inner reactions are explored through Beryl's poetry. Enhanced by her original graphics and backgrounds, this is a site to relish, linger, learn, and enjoy. Intended for all, some poems are woman to woman, however through the intensity of her words we all can and should relate. Thus my conclusion from her works that issues like love, emotions, and acceptance are indeed universal.
Beryl also delves into the tone of sensitive sarcasm as seen in "The Thirst" a look at third party self-absorbance which in reality is a defense mechanism. One I think all too familiar in our GLBT community. Why? Growing as a member of this community includes rejection, and acceptance. Some however realize far too much of the prior and little of the later. In, "The Thirst" Beryl looks at a seemingly cold "taker" who in desperation seeks to quench a thirst, while not allowing access to the inner self. Of course because of the lack of personal involvement and interaction the thirst of the subject will remain.
In her poem, "Fire" one of my favorites, Beryl addresses a mountain of possible emotions, thoughts and indeed life itself. I have added "Fire" here with her permission to tickle your fancy and prompt you to visit this very talented woman's world. This poem is about much more than flame as you will see yourself. Each time I read it a new thought, new realization is opened.
Fire
Hues of violet, red and blue Sparks of yellow radiate through Enchanting to the eyes Warming to the soul Inviting you into its seductive glow Do you dare to touch, feel and caress the object of your passion? Do you see what lies within? It is a dangerous game but you cannot deny your desire to sink into the flame... Beryl B. |
Beryl touches upon issues of life with which we are all familiar. Ranging from "Sexual Magic" a poetic interpretation of "Leather" to "The Icy Front" another favorite. The depth of her work and her ability to make her words meaningful to all are a wondrous benefit of her talent. Written to include all and exclude none, Beryl has opened the door to her soul and invited us to examine our own. Aptly named, "Reflections Of My Soul" her site reflects images of many souls. Those of people in our lives and indeed our own life as well. A pleasure and a challenge Beryl has succeeded in creating a "thinking" site. One which will open doors, and provide clearer vision. I enjoyed lingering at Beryl's site and rereading many times. Each time was as fresh as the first. The rhythms of her work would lend itself to music very well. Not a sing-song approach, but rather a natural beat which rises to the depth of her meaning.
Many thanks to Beryl for sharing her work as well as her soul with us. It is an enlightening journey, a pleasant one. Yes you will ponder, that's the point. I am always amazed when an artist can create their art to embrace any reader, and touch most hearts. Beryl has done that and more. I expect to see great things from this sensitive woman's immense talent. Do yourself a favor, sit back relax, open your mind, and take a journey to "Reflections Of My Soul"
